My heart felt condolences to Janis' family and her Mother, Mrs. Pauline Guerrero, my dear Aunt. I didn't know cousin Janis very well, since we have a large family of so many cousins; but, from reading about Janis' life, I can see she lived a very full and happy life. "Good people have good things in their hearts." Matthew 12:35
I knew Janis from High School and knew she was a caring, focused person and would go far in life. She didn't let me down! I have not kept up with too many of my high school friends over the years until recently. I know so many move away and do very well, but Janis stayed and made such an impact in her home town. Austin has lost a truly gifted and talented lady. My prayers to the family for your loss. "What we see will last only a short time, but what we cannot see will last forever." 2 Corinthians 4:18
Blessings, Janet Winston Justice, Kerrville, TX. (Crockett H.S. Class of '70).

In one of our last conversations this past April, Janis remarked to me how blessed she was. But I feel blessed to have known her and to have been a member of her AISD staff for seven years. Thank you, Janis, for your grace, kindness, patience, generosity, and perseverance. We will keep you in our hearts and your family in our prayers.

Back in 1996 I invited lots of musical friends as well as work colleagues to my birthday party, and by midnight we were a small crowd making lots of fun; that's when Janis and hubby came to the door. I was a little embarrassed because it was a bit rowdy and cluttered, but Janis was so cool and gracious and fit right in. My young daughter later said, "Wow, they are so polished." I came to appreciate Janis through her gift for wholehearted participation and right-thinking, always knowing exactly the right words to say, always putting her heart into her thinking. I feel deeply for the people at home that will now have to live without her and thank you for sharing her with us.

My thoughts are with Janis' family. She was truly an inspiring leader, professional mentor and friend to all. I will always remember her kindness and the dignified person she was. My heart goes out to her husband, son, daughter-in-law and her granddaughters (who she loved so much) for their tremendous loss. The world is a better place because of Janis.

I've known Janis since the sixth grade when she befriended me. Although I haven't seen her in many years, I heard from her through my sister and delighted in her success. Wise, gracious, classy, intelligent, caring, and fun, Janis was an inspiration and a truly exceptional person. The world is a lesser place without her. My deepest sympathy to her family.

I will always be grateful to Janis for hiring me at the Dana Center in 1998. She was a wonderful mentor and role model who helped me grow professionally. She was wise beyond her years and always gracious under pressure. She will be deeply missed by the Austin community and those fortunate enough to know her.

Janis & I became great friends while sitting next to each other in the flute section of the Crockett band. She was pure class and grace even at that young age. My heart aches for her family.

I was devastated to hear of Janis' passing. She was inspirational, committed to education in general, but to Latinos especially. She had such class, poise, and grace. A role model and a wise mentor. Janis was one-of-a-kind and an exceptional human being. She was a friend and a confidant. I will miss her. Condolences to the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

I knew Janis was in a battle, but hoped she would prevail, and was deeply saddened to hear of her passing. For many years I have admired Janis’ clarity and compassion, her commitment that youth voices be heard as a part of AISD plans, and the openness and delicacy with which she handled complex situations. She personified grace in a high pressure, politically challenging role.

She was such a class act. It is a great loss. Wishing her family peace and solace.
