Lola V. Lander Lola Virginia Lander (nee Albritton), 83, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 in Austin, Texas. Lola was born on November 26, 1927 in Moore Haven, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Virginia Albritton, and her brother, James Albritton of Florida. Lola's career spanned nearly 50 years working in the hospitality industry, beginning with her work at the world famous Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami, Florida and culminating as Manager of Austin's legendary Driskill hotel, the iconic Citadel Club, the beautiful Austin Women's Club, and the historical Austin Club. During the 1970's she directed one of the largest renovations of the Driskill hotel which included bringing together an expert team of German architects and skilled craftsmen who brought back the original beauty and splendor of this grand Austin landmark. She also oversaw the construction and opening of the Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop, Texas, and was the inaugural General Manager of this prestigious property. Lola was a natural leader and master of communication. She was well-respected and loved by everyone who had the blessing to know her - she never met a stranger and her kindness and compassion to others was genuine and valued. Her husband, children, grandchildren and close friends were blessed by her unconditional love for them. Lola is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Donald P. Lander of Austin; her daughter Jackie Freer and husband Doug of Round Rock, Texas; her son Vincent White of Austin, Texas; her daughter Donna Fore and husband Steve of Brookneal, Virginia; her daughter Dianne Holbrook of Austin; her son Mark Lander and wife Lisa of Austin, Texas; and her son Paul Lander of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her granddaughter Alison Freer of Los Angeles, California; her grandson Paul Freer of Round Rock, Texas; her granddaughters Ann White of Austin, Texas and Barbara Martinez of Kyle, Texas; her grandson Nathan Holbrook and wife Celeste of Columbus, Ohio; her grandson Christopher Holbrook of Austin, Texas; her grandson Sean Lander of Columbia, Missouri; and her granddaughter Caitlin Lander of Austin, Texas. She will be greatly missed by a number of Albritton and Lander family members, as well as many other close family and friends living in Ohio, Florida and across the country. A private family service will be conducted. The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks and gratitude for the outstanding care and concern provided by both Hospice Austin and Texas Oncology of Austin, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice Austin.
