Gordon Wayne Hurd Gordon Wayne Hurd, 88, of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, died September 26, 2011. Born April 6, 1923 in Brady, Texas, Wayne was the son of Irvine & Ellen Elizabeth (Hendrickson) Hurd. Wayne graduated from Texas A&M in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He served his country as a captain in the 124th Cavalry Regiment in the China Burma India (CBI) Theatre during World War II. He was always involved in his community, wherever he lived. He was very active in his church, having served as a deacon at the Presbyterian Church in Dallas, chairman of the Irving YMCA, director of Irving Chamber of Commerce, Irving Community Hospital, Las Colinas Country Club and Lake Area Health Center Foundation. He served as president of several professional organizations, including Home & Apartment Builders of Metropolitan Dallas, Irving Home Builders Association, Irving Industrial Foundation and Las Colinas Corporation. He was director of Southland Financial Corporation and a life director of National Association of Home Builders. He was a member of Texas Association of Builders, Urban Land Institute and Texas A&M Ex-Students Association. Wayne was co-developer of Horseshoe Bay. Wayne was awarded the Highland Lakes Legacy Fund Celebration of Giving Philanthropy Award in 2010. In 2005, he was awarded the Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce Lifetime Achievement Award and the Recognition Award for the Establishment of Horseshoe Bay by the Horseshoe Bay City Council. The Grateful Recognition Award for service with the 1st Squadron of the 124th Cavalry was presented to him in 2003, the Urban Land Institute Honor for Development of Las Colinas in 1985 and a Life Membership on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Home Builders of the United States in 1984. He was awarded numerous and various other awards and recognitions throughout his lifetime. Wayne is survived by his wife Eileen Hurd of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; daughters and sons-in law Donna Lynn and Jim Smith of Athens, Georgia and Donna Sue and Charlie Sugg of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; grandchildren Nicole Feltz and husband Ryan, Kristin Smith, Shane Crow, and Kevin Crow; great-granddaughter, Lucy Joy Feltz; nieces Maryellen Hurd Richardson and Jane Ann Hurd; and nephew Paul Windham Hurd. He is also survived by other relatives and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul Jarvis Hurd. Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church at Horseshoe Bay with Pete Christy and Johnny White officiating. Memorials may be made in his name to a .
