David Bartek Obituary

David Cliff Bartek David Cliff Bartek passed away suddenly on January 31, 2012, at the age of 59, in a local hospital in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he and his beloved wife, Jen Sue, had been living for 15 years. He was born on August 23, 1952, in Belton, Texas to Ben C. Bartek and Agnes Dana Bartek, where he grew up as one of four children. He was married to Jen Sue Brandes on July 16, 1978, in Austin, Texas, where he and Jen had both graduated from the University of Texas. David graduated from Belton High School in 1971, where he was a "Wall of Honor" graduate, and lovingly referred to as "Bull" Bartek. David was a first team All-District player in football his sophomore year. As a junior he was 1st team All-State on both offense and defense. His Senior year he was voted Senior Class President, and was selected as a 1st team All-State linebacker. He was also selected to Texas Football Magazine's Super Team as one of 11 players (regardless of class of school), and was selected to Sunkists Coach and Athlete All-American Team. David was selected to play in the Texas Coaches Association All-star fame and made 13 tackles in the South's victory. David's athletic career at Belton High also included more than a few district, regional, and All-State honors in track and field shot put and discus categories. At the University of Texas he played under the legendary coach, Darrell Royal, and was back-up fullback to two eventual All- Americans, Roosevelt Leaks, and Earl Campbell. He graduated from "The University" in 1975 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. He was very proud of this accomplishment and his time at Texas, and was a Longhorn to the max. David held sales positions with Montgomery Ward, Clampitt Paper, and Interstate Batteries, and taught school as a substitute teacher in Westlake Independent School District, before he and Jen moved to Las Vegas in 1997. David is survived by his loving wife Jen. David and Jen were desperately in love, were the loves of each other's lives, and enjoyed life to the fullest. He is also survived by his brother Bernard Bartek, and his wife Suzanne and their two children, Tracie and Clinton. Additionally, David is survived by Jen's two brothers, Allan and his wife Melissa of Austin, Texas, and Michael and his wife Delores of Temple. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends. David was a gentle, loving, kind and sweet man and will be missed by all. Finally, and most importantly, David was a Christian, and is now at the feet of Jesus in Heaven, worshiping and praising the Lord. John 3:16 says that "God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him, should not perish but have everlasting life. David Believed and is with Jesus today. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business, 1 University Station, B6006, Austin, Texas 78712, or to Nevada SPCA, 4800 W. My condolences to David's wife and family. I wish I knew David was at Fitzgerald's, I would have frequented it more often. Anyone living in Central Texas in the late 60's and early 70's knew the name Bull Bartek. I was never hit so hard by anyone out
there on those concrete practice firelds just outside ole BHS Stadium then when Bull Bartek would crash through the line with his helmet crown about to separate you from your teeth. He hit so hard the coaches were forced to purchase him a crash helmet rather than the standard helmets of the day. He cracked too many of them.
Shortened my brief football career to 10th grade.
My thoughts are with you and all of David's family. Peace.

Mrs. Bartek, please accept my heartfelt sympathy for the loss of your husband. You were one of my coaches as well as my science teacher in 8th grade at Hill Country M.S. in Westlake (Aus,TX.) in the early 80's. You were one of the best science teachers and I have not forgotten you. You are in my prayers.
Fondly,
Brooke Boehme Winfrey

Please accept my condolences. David was a great guy and always kind in high school. The words 'David was a Christian.' spoke to my heart and I rejoiced knowing I would see David again. This is not the end of David but the beginning of a new eternal adventure for him.

David and I were teammates in 1971 on the Freshman team at the University of Texas. David was a tremendous athlete and as strong as a bull. He took my twin brother and I up to Belton to visit his family and, of course, to get some wonderful home cooking. It was easy to see how David managed to keep his size while growing up. Mrs. Bartek was a wonderful cook. I will remember David not only for his ability on the football field, quick smile and good looks, but as a young man that was always able to make it to Mass on Sunday morning, no matter what. God Bless You, David.

I remember David, his Dad and sister, coming into the grocery store where I worked during my high school years. I enjoyed watching him become an outstanding running back at HS then getting a scholarship to Texas. The whole family was happy. I am sorry for your loss and pray for your comfort and peace.
