Ellen Ruth Ansley

Obituary Condolences

Ellen Ruth Ansley Ellen Ruth Ansley lost her battle with cancer on April 13, 2012 in Austin, Texas. Her husband James was at her side. Ellen was born June 7, 1950 in Brooklyn, New York, and lived most of her life in Poughkeepsie, NY. Ellen and Jim moved to Austin in 2006 following their retirements. They were married in Poughkeepsie on June 23, 1974 at Vassar Temple. A graduate of Cornell University and Ithaca College, with a Masters of Science in Speech Pathology and Audiology, Ellen was a teacher in the Arlington Central School District for 30 years. While there, she touched the lives of many special children. Upon her retirement in 2005, Ellen turned her energies toward fundraising for worthy causes, with ALS finding a special place in her heart. Ellen volunteered selflessly at fundraisers in the Austin area helping ALS organizers. Ellen was the first child of the late Dr. Murray Sigalow and Shirley Haber Sigalow. Mrs. Sigalow lives in Central Florida close to her son, David, the loving brother of Ellen. Her uncle, Dr. Jerome Sigalow of Poughkeepsie, also survives Ellen, along with many close cousins. M.D. Anderson Cancer Center of Houston, Texas and the Austin office of Texas Oncology coordinated Ellen's health care during her recent illness. The family wishes to thank all the compassionate and competent healthcare providers for treating Ellen as a person, not a disease. There will be a celebration of Ellen's life in the near future. Her "dream home" will be the site of this memorial celebration. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations in Ellen's memory be made to the ALS Association, the South Texas Chapter Austin, 8705 Shoal Creek Blvd., #114, Austin, TX. 78757. Professional services provided by Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
