Thomas P. Schnaiter Obituary
Lt. Col. Thomas Petro Schnaiter (USAF retired) Lt. Col. Thomas Petro Schnaiter (USAF retired), age 81, of Air Force Village II, San Antonio, TX, passed away Nov. 16, 2012. Tom was born Oct. 21, 1931 in Martinsville, IN to the late Robert Duckworth Schnaiter and Frances Eudora Petro Schnaiter. He attended Martinsville High School and Hilder Military Prep School. In 1954 he graduated from Indiana University with a BS in Marketing. While at IU he was an enthusiastic member of Beta Theta Pi. Tom entered the Air Force in August of 1954. On June 27, 1954 he married his wife of 58 years, Allene White, in Southbend, IN. While in the Air Force Tom served his country as a Master Navigator, spending a year in Vietnam and earning the Distinguished Flying Cross along with several other honors. He retired as a Lt. Col. on June 30, 1976. After his retirement from military service he attended Texas State University earning a teaching certificate in Industrial Technology. Tom began his own business as a Custom Home Builder and later taught Industrial Technology in the Round Rock ISD. He was a founding member of Hope Presbyterian Church in Austin, TX. He worked as a volunteer helping the elderly with the Northwest Care Givers of Austin. Tom loved his wife Allene and was "PawPaw" to his family who were his passion. Friends knew him as a gracious man who was a true patriot who loved his country. Survivors include his wife, Allene White Schnaiter of San Antonio; 3 children and their spouses, Thomas W. Schnaiter and wife Linda of Austin, Janet Schnaiter Mery and husband Guy of Austin, Robert D. Schnaiter and wife Ynez of Lago Vista; 6 grandchildren and their spouses, Derrick Schnaiter and wife Rachel, Kacee Schnaiter Trupiano and husband Matt, Nathan Mery and wife Krista, Mitchell Mery, Ryan Mery and wife Cindy and Amanda Mery; 2 step grandchildren, Richard Northcote and wife Divina, and Anthony Northcote; great grandchildren, Giovanni Trupiano, Owen Mery, Riley Mery, Baby "one on the way" Mery; Raegan Northcote; sister, Gloria Schnaiter Blake and husband Robert of Indianapolis, IN and their children Elizabeth Blake Stiles and Andrew Blake. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at 9:00 a.m. at the High Flight Chapel at Air Force Village II. Graveside Service with full military honors will be held on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
