Muriel Albright Lanford Obituary
Muriel "Mickey" Albright Lanford Muriel "Mickey" Albright Lanford, age 94, passed away on November 17, 2012. Muriel and her twin sister Dorothy were born to Anna Helen and Robert Lee Albright on August 21, 1918 in New York City, New York. After high school she attended Cortland State Teacher's College and graduated with a B.S. degree in Education. She served in the U. S. Army Medical Corps where she became a Registered Physical Therapist and rose to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Her rehab program for amputees drew a formal commendation from the U.S. Army. Muriel Albright married Don Lee Lanford in 1946 and began their life together in Texas. Mickey served as a visiting lecturer at the University of Texas and as an Instructor/Trainer for the Centex Chapter of the American Red Cross, teaching first aid courses. She was later certified as an Emergency Medical Technician, and served as Training and Educational officer for the Civil Defense and Fire Department of Travis County. Her training and skills led to her becoming the first female radiological monitor in Texas. She worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a First Aid Instructor for 10 years. Mickey was an avid reader, a published writer, and animal lover. She was also a long time member of the University Avenue Christ of Christ and helped host many functions for students and children. Mickey is survived by her children; Robert Lee (Cindy Brown) of Austin, David Scott (Carolyn) of Elgin; her daughter, Muriel Ruth of San Antonio; and her grandchildren; Lee Lanford (Stephanie) of Austin; Laura Marie Lanford (Thomas Rammer) of Chicago, IL; Stacia Laine Dodgen (Jason) of Marble Falls; and Arthur Scott Lanford (April Hann) of Chicago, IL; and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Don Lee Lanford; and her twin sister, Dorothy Albright Walker of Seminole, Florida. A visitation with family will be held at Harrell Funeral Home in Austin from 5:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 27th. A memorial service will be held at University Avenue Church of Christ at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 28th.
