Florence Frances Rainey Obituary
Florence Frances Rainey Florence Frances Rainey, a sixth generation Austinite, passed away December 31, 2012. A direct descendent of Ruben and Sarah Hornsby of Hornsby Bend, Florence was born November 26th, 1927 to David Doak and Hazel Hornsby Rainey. Florence spent her whole life in Austin and grew up in old West Austin on Pease Rd. She attended Pease Elementary and graduated from Austin High School. She attended The University of Texas at Austin and was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. In later years, she moved to Tarrytown and lived at 3210 Bonnie Rd. Florence was very proud of her Texas roots and that her ancestral home was the first house in Travis County and that the Texas Rangers were formed in that house's kitchen. She was a member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Hornsby Chapter. As an adult, she attended the Episcopal Church but later became an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Her first cousin, Joan Hornsby, remembers Florence as a child in which they spent summers swimming, everyday, going from Barton Springs to Deep Eddy, to the West Austin pool. She had many friends, including a group that always celebrated everyone's birthday for many years. She was a well-known fixture in Tarrytown, friendly and known by all the local business people. Florence is survived by her first cousin, Joan Hornsby of Austin; sister-in-law, DeAnnis Rainey of Austin; nephew, David Doak Rainey II and his wife, Judy Hsieh Rainey of Dallas; niece, Dr. Melinda Rainey and her husband, Joel White of Austin; great nieces and nephews; Jennifer Rainey, Austin White, Samuel White, Michelle Hsieh Pho and her husband, Kelvin Pho and Howard Hsieh, all of Austin; and a large extended family of Hornsby descendents. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, David Hornsby Rainey and her nephew, John Stanley "Chip" Rainey.
