At Louisiana State University she earned a BA in History and Spanish. At LSU, Helen was president of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and then spent decades in local, regional and national positions with ADPi. Helen married Peter Terwey of Nederland, Texas, and had three children: David Terwey, Kathryn Longley McNeely, and Emily Yeager. They lived in Beaumont, North Carolina, and College Station before moving to Houston. Helen and Peter divorced in 1964; and in 1967, Helen married Walter Lawrence (Larry) Prehn, Jr., merging their family of seven children. Helen and Larry lived in Houston, San Antonio and Dallas before settling in Austin. Helen was predeceased by Larry in 2004 and son, David in 2010. Helen's survivors include daughters Kathryn McNeely (Dave), and Emily Yeager.
