Donald Brooks Obituary
Donald Richard Brooks Donald Richard Brooks joined his Heavenly Father on June 12, 2013, after a lengthy illness. He was born December 22, 1933, in Glen Morrison, West Virginia, to Reverend Cash R. and Myrtle Brooks. He was one of six children. He served in the Army for two years, where he earned many awards and was honorably discharged, and then went on to graduate from West Virginia University. While at West Virginia University he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Simon. Together they started a family and after moving around the country, settled in Austin, Texas. Don worked for IBM for 38 years. During his career, he earned much recognition and was particularly proud of his work supporting the NASA Apollo missions. Don had five children and was a faithful provider and loving husband and father. He enjoyed fishing and sports - particularly college football. He was an avid reader of history and enjoyed traveling. During his travels he had the opportunity to visit many destinations including Alaska, Hawaii, Italy and Turkey, as well as the Caribbean and Central America. He had a sly sense and humor and a knack for storytelling. He was an active member of Hyde Park Baptist Church where he served as an usher. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Naomi Domi, as well as his brothers Albert Marion and William Brooks. He is survived by his wife of 53½ years, Elizabeth, and his five children and their spouses: Donna and Dean Draper of Abilene, Texas; Jennifer and Larry Gould of Red Rock, Texas; Naomi Stokes of Austin, Texas; Lisa Tomaszewski of Austin, Texas; and Rick and Lisa Brooks of Chicago, Illinois. He was blessed with and enjoyed his time with eight grandchildren: Chris, Katie, and Mindy Draper; Danielle and Joel Gould; Katrina Stokes; and Kelli and Allison Tomaszewski. He also was blessed with three great-grandchildren: Paige, Ella and J.R. Gould. He is also survived by his sister, Lucy Crookshanks, of Verona, Virginia and his sister and her husband, Charlotte and Lee Godby, of Polk City, Florida. Visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin, TX, at 3125 N. Lamar Blvd on Monday, June 17, from 5:00-7:00 pm. The memorial service will be at Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin, TX, at 3901 Speedway on Tuesday, June 18 at 11:00 am. He will be interred at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
