Kirby went on to complete his M.S. in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M in 1959. While at A&M, he met his beautiful wife, Janis, and they were married on July 3, 1957. His career began in 1959 with the United States Air Force as a civil engineering officer. From 1962-1964, he worked at Frank G. Bryant & Associates, a geotechnical and construction materials testing laboratory in Austin. With over 50 years' experience, his professional record in geotechnical and geological engineering, failure investigations, forensic studies, expert testimony and foundation design is respected throughout the industry. Kirby served the Lord by teaching Bible classes and using his engineering skills to help design and oversee the building of several churches. He loved hiking and backpacking in the mountains, hunting with friends, and traveling with his family. Dear Melanie and Family,

Our hearts break for all of you. Having lost both of our dads within the last two years, we understand the depth of your grieving. Know that as your dad slipped out of your hands, he was grasped by the loving hands of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, who said "today you will be with Me in paradise." Our prayers are with all of you for strength and comfort during this most difficult time. Fondly, The LaPorta Family (Tony, Mary, Joey and Robby)
