Joseph MLSNA Obituary

MLSNA, Joseph Anthony

Joseph Anthony Mlsna left the family he loved on December 1, 2013. He was born March 21,1935, and was joyfully welcomed by his mother, Veronica Mary Mlsna, nee Weibel, grandparents, along with numerous aunts and cousins, into a Wisconsin, German, polka-playing family of dairy farmers. He has now joined his mother, the father he never had a chance to know, Joseph Jacob Mlsna, Jr., and other members of that huge loving family, His first wife, Martha Jean Mlsna, nee Rounsavall, and his step-son, Rusty Gilliam, also predecease him.

Joe proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1955 until his retirement as Senior Master Sergeant in 1977. In the military he supervised maintenance and repairs on navigational systems and radar. The planes he worked on took him all over the world, sometimes to places his family couldn't know. During the Vietnam War he served at Uban, Thailand, and worked on Air Force One when President Lyndon B. Johnson was in Texas. After retiring from the military, Joe worked for Texas Department of Transportation from 1977 to 1996. While there he did air quality monitoring and analysis. Joe made lifelong friends in both the Air Force and his years at TxDOT.

His family remembers his humorous one-liners, his playfulness, and his love of family gatherings, his deep compassion, and his generosity to family, friends and the stranger on the street. His life was filled with music of all kinds. He loved playing his piano accordion, and he loved his Harley!

Joe married Martha on April 22, 1957, and missed her terribly after her death on July 13, 1995. On February 14, 2003, he married Jeane Hutson. He will be remembered by his wife, Jeane, his sister Evelyn Heath, five children, Tony Mlsna (Ann), Lori Bryant (Jerry), Chris Mlsna, Jennie Trombley-Peed (Dusty), and Juli Earl (David), and step-son, John Hutson. His loss is deeply felt by grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Melissa Lincoln (Mason), Scott Bryant (Ginger), Christopher Gilliam, Jenna Mlsna, Bryan Hutson, Jordan Mlsna, Jacob Trombley, Lauren Trombley, Emily Hutson, Jason Peed, Kyle Peed, Ryan Peed, and Dylan Earl, along with two great-grandchildren, Makayla and Deklin Bryant. He is also going to be missed by cousins, nephews, nieces, and his ex-daughter-in-law, Amy Waterman, his daughter-in-law, Tracy Gilliam, and his ex-son-in-law, David Trombley.

Joe would want to thank St. David's Medical Center doctors, nurses, tech, housekeeping, everyone, working in ICU, 2nd, 4th, and 5th floors and, St. David's Rehab Center staff and those at Park Place Care Center in Georgetown. Never have he or his family been so cared for!

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening, on Thursday, the 5th of December 2013, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.

Funeral services will be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 6th of December 2013, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. Flowers, cards, and calls of condolence from friends are appreciated. His favorite charities were St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, TN and Meals on Wheels and More of Austin.

I went to Junior High School with Juli, and now have been working with her for over 8 years. I can see where she gets her compassion from. Sending my deepest condolences to the Family. You are all in my prayers, for comfort and peace.

I remember Joe as a customer at Central Texas Harley on North Lamar! Full of stories and trivia and one-liners! Also as a neighbor when I lived on LaSalle St. in Austin! Blessings and comfort for the family of a fine man!
