GILES, Jack Ray|
Jack Ray Giles, 87, of Austin, Texas went home February 11th, 2014. He was born in Dallas, Texas on May 26th, 1926.
Jack, or 'Pappaw' to his grandchildren, was an avid story teller. His life was told and retold as many times as we could listen. We learned of his years in the United States Navy which he proudly served during World War II on the U.S.S. Sarita (aka 39). He married the love of his life, Billie Jeanne, August 26th, 1946. They were sponsors for numerous Vietnamese refugees making their way to United States after the Vietnam War. He had a gift of word and we will miss him.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Billie Jeanne Washam Giles and his youngest son Robert Lance Giles.
He is survived by his oldest son David Giles and wife Connie, his daughter Kathleen Giles Wire; his grandchildren Jessica Giles Holt and husband Brian, Megan Smith Holt and husband Tedd, Wyatt Giles, Melissa Giles, Andrew Giles and wife Rebecca, Henry Wire III, Walter Wire, Kara Wire, David Wire and wife Corey, Nick Giles and wife Elizabeth, and LoAnn Giles Garcia and husband Ryan; and 17 (and a half) great-grandchildren.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00pm until 8:00pm in the evening, on Friday, the 14th of February 2014, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
