Stuart WHITESIDE Obituary

WHITESIDE, Stuart C.
Stuart Whiteside, a long time resident of Georgetown and Liberty Hill, died September 29, 2015.

Stuart was born in 1924 in White Plains, New York. He attended school in New York and Connecticut and enlisted in the Navy upon graduation from The Choate School in 1942. He married Barbara-Lee Rubsamen in 1945. Stuart graduated from Yale University and earned a commission in the Navy Civil Engineer Corp. He served both in an active and reserved status until 1961. His business life was spent mostly in the western part of the United States. He held sales and marketing positions in California, Idaho and Washington State before moving to Texas in 1969. He retired from IBM at the Austin Development Site in 1987.

Stuart loved the outdoors. He and Barbara-Lee instilled that love in their four children and they took full advantage of it in their days in Idaho and Washington, as well as here in Texas. Hunting, fishing and boating were common ways for the family to spend time together. Over the years he and Barbara were active members of a fishing club and the Georgetown Natural History Club. He was also a member of the Central Texas Woodturners Assocation, the Georgetown Wood Carvers Club, the Texas State Woodcarvers Guild, and the Central Texas Loner's on Wheels.

Stuart is preceded in death by Barbara-Lee in 2002 and grandson Seth Johnson in 2001. Surviving him are his son, Stuart III and wife Jeanne, of Washington State, daughters, Mary-Lee Johnson and her husband Lloyd of Washington State, Patricia Ann Slack and husband Neal of Texas and Janet Elizabeth Larson and husband Mike of Texas, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and his companion for the past 6 years, Donette Harpole.

The interment will be private per Stuart's wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials be made to the American Heart Association, Capitol Area Region, P.O. Box 143089, Austin, TX 78714-3089, Scott & White Memorial Hospital, Development Office, 2401 South 31st St, Temple, TX 76504-9983, Scott & White Hospice, 2401 South 31st St, Temple, TX 76504-9983, American Cancer Society, or the charity of one's choice.
