I recently heard the news of Dr. Brokaw passing. He was a great influence on me as a person and a teacher. He was my dissertation supervisor in 96 and I am forever grateful for his keen eye and generous heart. I am having a book published this year and have dedicated it to him and now it breaks my heart that I can't hand him a copy. He was a brilliant mind, a humble soul and a great, great teacher.

He was a tough teacher but a wonderful, caring human being and a brilliant scholar. On my research paper in Theatre History (I think I made a "C" - it was YEARS ago) he wrote: "Specious and discursive." I was so young and clueless back then, I had to look up what those words meant! But he was a fine man and I only wish I had worked with him when I could have really understood how important and meaningful what he was teaching entailed. Back then, in 1974, I was a dancer and totally obsessed with perfecting multiple pirouettes and double tours en l'air. However, I met up with him at a reunion years later and we had such a lovely chat and a good laugh over old times. RIP, Good Dr Brokaw. Mike McKinley, UT Drama, Class of 1977.

Wonderful man, amazing professor and a true friend. He will be missed by all who knew him and those who only wished they did. My thoughts are with his family.
Hard to believe he has left us.

I loved being in his class & as a Graduate student, serving him as Graduate Secretary. He was always so very kind & thoughtful. He also served as an advisor for my thesis production. I'll be forever thankful for knowing him.

I worked like a dog to perform well in his Theatre History class in 1975/76 which is a testament to his ability as an effective teacher. The old adage - you can take a horse to water but you can't make him drink - was amplified when he made this "horse" thirsty. This, in my humble opinion, is what great teachers do, they make their students thirsty. I was elated and over the moon when I received my last paper from the second semester of Theatre History and discovered I had earned an "A". Finally, I learned more about academic writing from Dr. Brokaw than any teacher until I encountered Dr. J. Scribner during graduate school. Dr. Brokaw will remain alive in our hearts and minds.
Wishing Peace and Light going forward for all of Dr. Brokaw's family.
