Blumenstein, Neil
Neil E. Blumenstein November 1, 1925 - December 19, 2014 Neil Ernest Blumenstein was born on November 1, 1925 in Salem, Oregon at Salem General Hospital just one year after its construction. Neil married "Dottie" Dorothy E Abbott on July 10, 1948. Neil E. Blumenstein was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and his daughter Sharon Kay Blumenstein and is survived by their children, Alan, Larry, Jenny, Jim and Mary. In addition to raising six children with "Dot," Neil was the family oracle of patience and calm that helped the extended family weather the inevitable storms of tribulation that visit families as time passes by. Neil served as a 3rd Class Gunners Mate aboard the US Coast Guard patrol frigates USS Pocatello and the USS Burlington in the Pacific and Elution Theaters during World War II when Coast Guard served under the command of the US Navy. While serving on the USS Burlington, Neil's gun crew saved the ship from a Kamikaze strike by splashing the aircraft seconds before striking directly on his position. In civilian life Neil first worked at Western Paper, where he met his "Dottie," and then had a 38-year career at Moore Business Forms, where he made lithographic plates for high-speed printing presses. A memorial service will be held in the Grace Chapel at Willamette Lutheran Retirement Community, 7693 Wheatland Rd N, Keizer, OR 97303, on Monday, December 29th at 2:30 p.m. Sometime this summer Neil and Dorothy will be buried at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.

Craig, Susan
Susan Elizabeth Craig December 21, 1965 - December 20, 2014 Susan Elizabeth Craig was born December 21st, 1965 in Portland, Oregon to Barbara Johnson. She grew up with siblings Virginia, Bret, Brian, and Jerred and will be fondly remembered as an influential mother figure to her siblings. She was educated in the Silver Falls School District of Silverton, Oregon and was a freshman at Silverton High School when she met a young man named Dean Craig. The fateful meeting would change her life. The two began dating and as the saying goes, "The rest is history." On July 16th, 1982 Susan Johnson married Dean Craig and on November 11th, 1981 the two welcomed their first of five children. This was the beginning of a lifelong devotion to motherhood and love story between Susan and her husband, that inspired all who knew the Craig family. Susan and Dean were blessed with 33 years of love, commitment, and family memories. Susan's loyalty and support for her family was unmatched and unwavering. Susan was also committed to and was very involved in her faith community at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was the owner and operator of a well-known local flower watering business and was a familiar face around Silverton and Mt. Angel. In the summer months she was out every day making sure the town's flower baskets stayed beautiful and could be counted on to give directions should anyone need to know the way around town. Susan leaves behind a close-knit family that will forever be grateful for her influence and inspiration in their lives: Her beloved husband and love of her life Dean Craig; her loving children Michael (Esther), Nick (Becky), Elizabeth (Brandon), Josh, and Jake (Chelsea); and finally grandchildren Sawyer, Amelia, Tripp, and Josephine. All are welcome to attend Susan's funeral which will be Friday, December 26th, 2014 at 11:00AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Angel, Oregon. "Worry is interest paid on a debt you may never owe."
