Leonard, Vivian
VIVIAN SCHNEIDER LEONARD June 26, 1928 - April 22, 2015 Vivian Schneider Leonard slipped quietly into the eternities on April 22 at the age of 86 following a brief illness, surrounded by her family. She stepped through the veil to be reunited with her parents Anna Meier and Wilbert Schneider, sister, Dolores Jeppson, a grand daughter, Melissa McNeil and ultimately into the arms of The Savior whom she knew very well. She leaves behind her loving husband, Jack, with whom she shares an eternal marriage, one that has existed for 65 years. They were married in Portland in 1950 and sealed in the LDS Temple in Salt Lake City a year later. She was born, one of three daughters, on June 26, 1928 in Portland, where she attended Highland Grade and Jefferson High Schools where she sang in the choir and a sextet known as "Treble Clef". She and Jack raised two children, Jeffrey Leonard and Julie Leonard McNeil with 4 grandchildren to follow, Anne, Heather, Craig and Melissa. After living in Portland and later in Salem, she worked for 14 years in various capacities for the State Legislature and as an Administrative Assistant for Chief Judge George Joseph in the Court of Appeals. Upon her retirement Judge Schwab confided to her that she was the glue that held the court together. All of her life she was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in numerous capacities. Her service included 20 years at the Portland LDS Temple where she supervised a weekly shift for several years. As her health brought her challenges, she retired to stay home and enjoy her little dog, Nicky, whom she adored. She would play the harmonica while the dog joined her in song. She was a great cook, hostess, seamstress, artist, musician, and genealogist, researching her forebears who were Germans living in Russia. She is survived by the mentioned family and a sister, Wilanne and many nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. Funeral services will be held at the Beaverton LDS Stake Center, 4195 SW 99th Ave, Beaverton on Saturday May 2nd at 11:00 am with a viewing at 10:00. Burial will be at the Willamette Cemetery.
