Gertrude Dull Obituary
Gertrude Miriam Dull December 12, 1914 - August 11, 2010 SALEM - Gertrude Miriam Brazel Dull was born December 12, 1914 in South Bend, Washington the first child of James and Edith Brazel. Her father was a logger, in the early years of her life, until buying a farm near Albany, Oregon where Gertrude finished her school years. She attended the Methodist Church in Albany, and it was there she met her future husband, Glenn Ernest Dull. They were married December 25, 1932. They owned a Red and White Store in Salem, Oregon until Glenn was called into the service. Gertrude and their young son, Jerry Lee Dull moved in with Glenn's mother during the war years. After overcoming serious health complications, Gertrude found work at an Albany Bank and began to work her way up in the banking system. In the mid 50's the Dull's moved to Portland and Gertrude continued her advancement in the US Bank. By the time of her retirement in 1979, she had earned a reputation as an exceptional employee with impeccable integrity and grace. They moved to Charbonneau, Oregon in 1976. The Charbonneau community fit their lifestyle perfectly. After her retirement they became snowbirds, wintering in California and enjoying summers at Charbonneau. Glenn and Gertrude were both avid golfers and active members in their new community. Known for great strategy and skill, Gertrude was a sought after bridge partner and skilled golfer, winning several competitions. An important part of their new community was the spiritual guidance at St. Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church. It was a great joy to Gertrude to watch the church grow and expand its ministry. Once they moved to Spring Ridge Retirement Home, Gertrude continued an active life, enjoying physical exercise, swimming and walking as well as mental activity of playing bridge and enjoying the company of those around her. Gertrude and Glenn celebrated their 68th anniversary December 25, 2000. He passed away the following July. In September 2007, Gertrude moved to Salem, Oregon to be closer to her son, Jerry and family. Throughout her life, Gertrude was a progressive and spirited lady loved by all who knew her. Her love, her patience, and kindness enriched us all. She will be remembered for her grace and dignity. On August 11, 2010 Gertrude passed away, her family at her side. She is survived by her brother, Lee Brazel; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Thursday, August 19, 2010 at St Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church with a reception immediately following in Cummins hall at St Francis.
