Alfred B. Crockett

June 19, 1924 - February 24, 2013

SILVERTON - Alfred Britton Crockett, born and raised in Silverton, passed away at his home February 24, 2013, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 88 years old. Al was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Vades Dickerson-Crockett, also native of Silverton. He is survived by children David and Carolyn Crockett, Diana Crockett, Dana and Donna Lee Crockett, and Donna Lynn Marcotte. In addition, Al has four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Alfred served as a Flying Tigers squadron pilot of C-46 and C-47 transport planes throughout China during World War II. Al was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service during the war. Upon return, he married Vades in a double ceremony with his brother Donald. Al and Vades lived in their home on West Center Street in Silverton for the next 59 years until her passing in 2010.

Al worked for 30 years as a draftsman for the Oregon State Highway Department. After retirement in 1986, he and Vades enjoyed working together on their home and yard. Al had become an avid walker and could be seen in the early hours traveling the nearby roads of Silverton.



A short military service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on March 18 at the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
