Bruce Robert Bigland
October 25, 1926 - November 12, 2012
SALEM - Bruce Robert Bigland was born on October 25th 1926 in Duvernay, Alberta, Canada. In 1952 he married the love of his life, Lorill Ringland. They were married for sixty years.
In 1954 their daughter Linda was born in Vancouver, B.C. and the family immigrated to California the following year.
Bruce spent his working life as an executive with Union Oil. He and Lorill fell in love with the beauty of Oregon while driving on Hwy 99 on their way to a visit in Canada. They dreamed of retiring here. The dream came true in 1986. The following year, their daughter Linda and her sons moved to Oregon and the very close family was together again.
Bruce loved to walk on the beach in Kauai, picking up Puka shells with his beloved Lorill.
Bruce loved woodworking. Everyone admired the beautiful fine furniture that he crafted. When someone (especially his daughter) needed help with anything, he would jump in his truck and come to the rescue, always with a smile on his face.
He took great joy in riding his ATV around his beautiful 26 acres, working on his land, and sharing the wealth of his blackberries with family and friends.
Above all, Bruce loved his family. His wife, his daughter, his grandsons and his 2 great-grandsons were the most important part of his happy, successful life.
He is survived by his wife, Lorill, daughter Linda Weiner Petrin (Brad), grandsons Michael Allen Weiner and Christopher Robert Weiner, great-grandsons Matthew Christopher Weiner and Van James Weiner, sisters, Kathleen Cropper and Barbara Shearer and brother Leonard Bigland (Albie)
He was preceded in death by brothers Jim Bigland and Victor Bigland.
Bruce made the world a better place and we will miss his wonderful, gentle spirit.
Services will be held on Monday, November 19th at 2:00 pm at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem.
