CHARLES R. (CHUCK) ALLBERY
June 30, 1925 - November 18, 2013
Chuck has born in St. Maries, Idaho to Russ and Mildred Allbery. His older sister, Wilma, and younger brother, Norman, both predeceased him. The family moved to Spokane, WA while Chuck was very young and he grew up and attended school there. During WWII, he joined the U.S. Army
, in 1943, seeing action in the South Pacific Islands. Upon his return to the U.S.A., he married LaVonne and attended college, in Walla Walla, WA. After returning to Spokane, he drove bus for Greyhound. Later, Chuck became a radio dispatcher for the Washington State Patrol, in Tacoma, WA. This peaked his interest in law enforcement and he attended WSP officer training school, in Shelton, WA, becoming a commissioned WSP officer. He met, and married, his second wife, Jan in 1959, while being stationed in Kelso, WA. Chuck and Jan moved to Salem, OR in 1960, where they made their permanent home together and have been married for 53 lovely years. Chuck became the Salem's Chief Building Inspector and retired from that position in 1990.
Chuck is survived by his wife Jan, son Rick (Sandy), grandson Russ, one niece and several nephews and cousins. He is also survived by LaDonna. a niece-of-choice.
Chuck joined the Masonic Lodge in 1955 and became the Past Master of Salem's Kingwood Lodge in 1978. Due to poor health. attendance at the meetings has not been possible for the past several years.
Chuck enjoyed watch repairing, traveling, cross-country skiing, square dancing. lapidary work, woodworking, reading, and his friends. He was a whiz at improvising items and making them work. He could fix anything!
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations sent in memory of Chuck Allbery to the Center 50+ Endowment Fund.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013, 1:00pm at Howell Edwards Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom, 1350 Commercial St.SE Salem.
