Clarence Sherman

Clarence Silas Sherman

October 3, 1916 - April 3, 2014

Clarence was born in Atchison, Kansas to Ruth Jane & Thomas J. Sherman, and passed away at the age of 97. He had two brothers and two sisters all deceased. He enlisted in the Navy in the year 1934. During his 20 years active service and 10 years Naval Reserve service he was stationed at six different Navy hospitals, on five ships and six Navy stations. He was used to help establish and equip hospitals and medical facilities aboard ships and Naval stations. He enlisted as a hospital apprentice and retired as a Warrant Officer in the Navy Medical Service Corps.

After his Navy retirement he worked for both Marion and Polk County Health Departments as Director of Environmental Health Services for over 25 years. He married Leona H. Nistler on April 27, 1940, she preceded him in death in 2007. They have four children, eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday from 10 am - 12Noon at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30pm at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
