David Lorn Martin
March 8, 1951 - November 18, 2012
SALEM - David L. Martin, age 61, passed away on November 18, 2012 due to a long battle with Lou Gerig's (ALS) disease. He was diagnosed over 7 years ago with ALS, after surviving his fight with head and neck cancer.
David was born in Hermiston, OR to Alvin L. and Lorene Martin. David was the youngest of three boys. The family moved to Sheridan in 1964, David graduated from Sheridan High School in 1969.
He married Pam Schilling in 1993. David was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed all kinds of fishing, his favorites were drifting the Nestucca, and other rivers. He was always willing to share his knowledge and experience with others. His love for the outdoors also included bow hunting, white water rafting, camping and gold dredging. David also enjoyed swimming, yoga, watching sports and movies. He cherished the time he had with his family and friends.
He survived by his wife Pamela Martin, and his father Al Martin. He is proceeded in death by his mother Lorene Martin. He is also survived by his brothers Arvard and Lynn Martin, his son Gerod Martin, step-children Isaiah Williams, Jamie (Ben) Hussey, Julie (Kelan) Chambron, and six grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the ALS Foundation and caregivers, for the wonderful care and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am Saturday, Dec 1st at West Salem Christian Church, 1155 Glen Creek Rd NW Salem, Or 97304. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David's name to the ALS Association through Virgil Golden Funeral Home, 605 Commercial St SE, Salem OR 97301
