Dennis Kenneth Schooler

April 6, 1943 - June 7, 2013

Dennis was born April 6, 1943 in Silverton OR to Adrian & Ione Schooler. He passed away June 7th at his home surrounded by his loved ones after a short fight with cancer.

He graduated from Woodburn High School in 1961. While in school he enjoyed playing football and basketball.

He proudly served his country in the US Army as an Ammo Storage Inventory Clerk in Korea during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

He followed in his father's footsteps and worked for the City of Woodburn Water Division. During his 40 plus years with the city he worked his way up from ditch digger to the Water Division Superintendent.

He was a long time member of the Woodburn Eagles and Woodburn Elks.

On September 20th 1969 he married Velda Marie Ramse of Junction City, OR. They made their home in Woodburn where he lived his entire life. In April 1971 he was blessed with the birth of twin daughters, Terri and Patti.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going to garage sales but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved to watch his grandchildren play sports. He went to every soccer, football and basketball game he could.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Velda and daughters Terri Castro and Patti Garza of Woodburn and six grandchildren; Anthony, Alyssa, Madison and Bailey Castro and Leo and Joey Garza. He also leaves behind his sister Kristine (Doug) McCracken of Woodburn, OR, sister-in-law Gloria Thurston of Milwaukie, OR, sister-in-law Carol (Randy) Peterson of Tualatin, OR, niece Victoria (Kevin) Carlson of Oregon City, nephew Lee Allen (Lacey) Ramse of Seattle, WA and mother-in-law Shirley Score of Woodburn.

Please join us at a Celebration of Dennis's life on Saturday, June 15th, 2:00 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Woodburn, OR. A private internment will be held at Belle Passi Cemetery.
