Donald Morris Vetter
March 13, 1922 - April 5, 2014
SALEM - Donald Morris Vetter passed away on April 5 at the age of 92. He was born March 13, 1922 in Kennewick, Washington.
Donald graduated from Yakima High School in June 1940, J.M. Perry Institute (Yakima) in 1943 with a C.A.A. Mechanics License. He received a B.A. in Music Education from Linfield College in 1952 and a Master of Music from the University of Oregon in 1959.
Donald served in the U.S.N.R. AMMI 2/c 890-26-95, 16 August 1944 to 7 June 1946, Air Transport Squadron 5 Sand Point Naval Air Station, Seattle, Washington, the Air Transport Squadron 12 Honolulu T.H. and Johnston Island.
Donald was a teacher for 32 years in Oregon public schools, Fairview Home, Hillcrest School of Oregon and Maclaren School for Boys. He spent many years as a private music teacher.
Donald enjoyed playing accordion for dinners and Bass Fiddle for the Salem Symphony, Oregon College of Education Orchestra, church orchestras, plays and in various programs. He sang in and directed many church choirs. Donald also sang in the Portland Symphonic Choir and sang the Baritone part in a male quartet of retired school choir teachers called The Musicators for at least 10 years.
Donald married Evelyn Kearns on August 24, 1946. She preceded him in death in 2011. He is survived by four children, Paul Haymond, New York, Charles A. Vetter, Halsey, OR., Jill A. Vetter-Espe, Salem and Janine A. Goodwin, and two granddaughters.
