Edna Knickerbocker

Edna May Knickerbocker

August 29, 1926 - November 14, 2012

SALEM - Edna May Knickerbocker passed away in Salem, Oregon. Edna was born on her parent's farm near Drain, Oregon. She was one of six children of Phillip and Minnie (Vinyard) Snell - both descendants of pioneer Oregon families. Later, the family moved to Eugene, Oregon. Eventually, Edna and her family moved to Santa Rosa, California (where she graduated from Santa Rosa High School) and then on to Southern California where she lived for several years in Gardena, California.

Edna worked for many years for United Airlines as an office manager at the Los Angeles International Airport. While working at United Airlines, Edna met James Solon Knickerbocker, her loving husband of 47 years. They married on September 5th of 1964 and lived in Newport Beach, California.

Edna and her husband retired in 1990 and moved to Greybull, Wyoming. In Greybull, they belonged to the First Baptist Church of nearby Basin; where Edna was an active and faithful member. In 2010, Jim and Edna moved to Salem, Oregon to be nearer to family and to various medical care options.

Edna loved the Lord. She loved people of all ages and backgrounds. She was a very gracious and gentle person with a very generous heart. She always had a smile on her face and a warm hello for those around her. She was in turn loved by many and will be deeply missed by all those she touched. While she never had children of her own; she absolutely adored children and the elderly. She also had a very kind heart for animals.

She is survived by her older sister, Ruth Shoush of Victorville, California; two nieces: Tina Heuser of Salem, Oregon and Carol Gomes of Dayton, Oregon; and nephews: Edward Mansell of Beaverton, Oregon, Ronald Rego of Hesperia, California, and Richard Rego of Petaluma, California. The family especially would like to thank the Rosewood Court Residential Care Staff at the Tierra Rose Senior Living Community in Salem, Oregon for their warm, loving care and all their efforts on Edna's behalf.

Arrangements are pending with burial planned at her husband's gravesite at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Cards of remembrance can be sent to the family via Virgil T.
