ELNORA KROEKER SCHLAAK
August 21, 1926 - April 25, 2014
Elnora Warkentin Kroeker Schlaak, age 87, passed away on April 25, 2014 at Salem Hospital. Elnora was a resident of Dallas Retirement Village
Elnora was born 8/21/26 in Marshfield (Coos Bay), Oregon. Her parents were A.A. "Eurt" and Marie Friesen Warkentin. She grew up in Independence along with her brother, Harold, moving to Dallas during her high school years. She accepted Christ as Savior at age 10. She attended Salem Academy her senior year and was part of the first graduating class of Salem Academy.
Elnora married David P. Kroeker in 1947. They raised four children together. Her favorite activities included camping, going to the Coast, picking beans and strawberries, and many family activities.
She was very active at Evangelical Bible Church, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. Singing was an important part of her life as she sang in a trio for 19 years.
She worked at a number of stores in downtown Dallas in her earlier years. She later worked for Sears in Salem.
Her husband, David, passed away from cancer in 1983. In 1999, she married Herbert Schlaak of Abbotsford, B.C. After 72 years of living in Polk County, she moved to Abbotsford. She and Herb bought a winter home in Mesa, Arizona, and split their time between Canada and Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband David, son Kenneth and her brother Harold.
Her survivors include her children Steve, of Redondo Beach, CA, Gerald of Las Vegas, Phyllis (Charlie) Mack of Las Vegas and daughter-in-law Suze Kroeker Marcinko of Seabeck, Washington. Her grandchildren are Lacy Duke, Lani Mack, Samantha Kroeker and David Kroeker. She also is survived by Herb Schlaak of Abbotsford, B.C.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, April 29th in the Restlawn Cemetery followed by a memorial service at the Evangelical Bible Church at 3:00pm in Dallas. To leave a message or memory for the family please go to www.dallastribute.com
