Florence "Evelyn" Crane
February 18, 1925 - May 5, 2014
SALEM - Evelyn Crane was 89 years old and a long-time resident of Salem, Oregon. She died on Monday, May 5, 2014, in her Salem home.
Evelyn was born on February 18, 1925 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada to her parents Charles Berger and Ethel (McLeod) Berger.
After moving to Salem, Oregon, Evelyn attended Parrish Junior High and Salem High School.
, Evelyn worked in the shipyards in Portland, Oregon.
On August 10, 1947 Evelyn married Charles Keith Crane (known as Keith Crane). They were blessed with two children; Daniel and Christie.
In 1948 Evelyn began working in the Accounting Department at the Oregon State Highway Department. From there she went to the Oregon State Accident Insurance Fund (SAIF), where she had many promotions and transitioned to the Data Processing department. She was a Production Control Manager when she retired in 1984.
Evelyn was a long time member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. She recently was awarded her 60 year pin. Over the years, Evelyn served many times as an elected officer and a Social Chairman for many of the sorority's functions.
Further, as a member of the Elks Camper Club, Evelyn and Keith shared many happy memories camping and socializing with their friends.
Evelyn eagerly anticipated her winter trips to Yuma, Arizona where she and Keith spent time with their friends and enjoyed the sunshine. Their social life was so robust that 4 of the couples named themselves "The Great 8" . (Keith and Evelyn Crane, Howard and Audrey Wells, Marshall and Gloria Bernstein and Roy and Fern West.)
Evelyn loved to sing, dance and laugh. She had a gift of bringing out the humorous side in everyone. Age never slowed Evelyn down. During one of their recent winter trips to Yuma she took tap dancing lessons.
Evelyn was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Alice Mason and Donnie Freeman and her son, Daniel Crane. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Keith Crane, her daughter Christie Peron, and two grandsons, Cody Peron and Ryan Peron.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 12 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
