Florence Mae Hobble

SALEM - Florence passed away peacefully Tuesday evening. Born to Luke and Rina Van Hess in Mt. Vernon, South Dakota, she lived in Stickney, SD until she was 12. The family moved to Hartford, MI.
She graduated from Hartford High School in 1943 where she had taken many secretarial classes. Shortly after graduation, the family moved to Salem to be near relatives. She started working at the Oregon State Hospital in 1946. She was a secretary and the medical librarian when she retired.
Florence met Harold Hobble on a blind date. They were married on her birthday in 1947. They remained sweethearts for 54 years until his death in 2002. She was an excellent seamstress and sewed many of her own clothes. She painted beautiful scenic pictures.
After retiring, Harold and she spent winters in Quartzsite, AR with other rock hounds. She was secretary for the Willamette Agate and Mineral Society for 5 years.
Her last years were spent in the memory care at the Woods in Salem where the staff lovingly cared for her. Although she lost her ability to speak, her beautiful smile drew in every one who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, 3 brothers, a half brother and 2 half sisters. She is survived by her sister Evelyn Randall and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 11 am at Restlawn Funeral Home. Private interment at Restlawn Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Serenity Hospice.
