Frank George Deckebach III

July 19, 1928 - January 23, 2014

We celebrate the life of Frank George Deckebach III who died peacefully at his home in Port Angeles Washington at age 85 on January 23, 2014 of congestive heart failure. Frank lived a long and full life, and had a positive/uplifting impact on his family, friends, and acquaintances. He had an outgoing personality, and never met a stranger.

Frank was born to parents Frank G. Deckebach Jr. and Eloise Prudhomme Deckebach on July 19, 1928 in Salem, Oregon. He attended Salem schools, graduating in 1946 from Salem High School, and immediately joined the Navy. After discharge, he enrolled at Oregon State University in the School of Forestry in 1948. He was recalled into the Navy in 1950 during the Korean conflict, serving in Japan.

In August 1951, Frank married Mary O'Brien in Klamath Falls, Oregon. This started a 62 year marriage. During their marriage, they raised 3 children, living in Oregon (Astoria, Vernonia, Canby) and Washington (Port Angeles). They retired to Port Angeles in 1986.

Upon graduation from OSU, Frank went to work for Crown Zellerbach Corporation in the timber department. He had a 32 year career at Crown, working as a forester, contract supervisor, tree farm manager, log sales manager, and research manager. Frank was a member of the Society of American Foresters for 50 years. He loved the Forest Products industry and spending time in the timberlands of the Northwest.

Frank loved to golf, served in Rotary for 25 years, served as a leader in Boy Scouts, and was an active member in his church where he held numerous leadership positions at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He was currently a member of Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church.

Frank is survived by three children: David (Holly) Deckebach of Atlanta, Georgia; Anne (Alan) Bialik of Germantown, Maryland; and John Deckebach of Port Angeles. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren: Daniel, Adele, and Derek (Deckebach); Rachel and Aaron (Bialik). He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations and volunteer service be given to the Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, 540 East 8th Street, Port Angeles Wa. 98362. The memorial service for Frank will be held at Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church in Sequim on Saturday, February 22nd, at 11am.
