Harold Van Allen Stewart

June 12, 1923 - August 18, 2013

Harold Van Allen Stewart, Jr., age 90, peacefully passed away at Salem Hospital on Aug. 18 as a result of heart failure. He had been a resident of Marion Estates in Sublimity, OR for the past 10 years.

Born in Easton, PA, he completed his B.S. degree in physics at age 18. He began his service to our country in the pacific theatre during WWII as a Lt. J.G. in the US Navy at age 19 aboard the battleship USS Mass. He married Betty Kromer following the war and continued his education at Syracuse University working toward a Ph.D.; eventually serving as their youngest professor of physics at that time.

He went on to work in aerospace with Boeing, Avco, Hughes Aircraft and other diversified interests later in his career.

He was a man of high academic/career achievement and intellect, but firmly grounded in faith and humor. His medical team recently described him well as having "the Sparkle Factor". He enjoyed fishing, family, fishing, tennis, fishing, cooking and fishing…and an occasional martini.

He is survived by his three sons and granddaughter; Harold "Teeter" (Everett, WA), Darrell (Tucson, AZ), Ron (Salem) and Rachael (Medford).

His life will be celebrated at Marion Estates (McKillop Residence) in Sublimity, OR at 2 PM, Sat. Aug. 24.

In lieu of flowers, checks payable to CASH may be sent to any of the sons, perhaps more preferable, donations made in his name to Salem Alliance Church.
