H.J. "Mickey" Cory
October 24, 1924 - February 14, 2013
SALEM - After 2 open heart surgeries in his life and a well fought battle with congestive heart failure, Mickey died at the age of 88 on Feb 14, 2013. Mickey was born Hollis James Cory on October 24, 1924 in Iowa. His parents had him late in life and he went to live with his sister Bess in California at the age of 13. He had a short stint in the Marine Corp and then went to work for Douglas Aircraft. Mickey later moved his family to Oregon and became a Farmers Insurance agent until his retirement from the company. In his younger years he raced cars, including a Model A that he crashed which ended his career as a driver. He kept his love of racing for the rest of his life. He had always wished he could go to the Indy 500 but settled for watching it religiously on TV. He married his first wife, Jean Watson, and together they had a daughter, Diane. Jean preceded him in death and he married Mary King. They adopted a daughter Donna. They were married 54 years until her death in 2006. Mickey spent his last years with Fern Perry by his side. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his charm, and his caring. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bess, brother Ralph, first wife Jean, and wife Mary. He leaves behind daughters Diane (Roger), Donna (Dana), grandchildren Heather (Eric), Cory (Kelsey), Karina and 4 great grandchildren. Arrangements by Crown Memorial Center - Salem.
