As a young man Ken was a crew chief in the Air Force and a longtime member of the Air Force Reserves. He was a graduate of the University of Oregon. He came to Salem in 1959 to work for Allstate Insurance, although most of his career was with the State of Oregon. At retirement he was a budget manager for the Children's Services Division.

Ken often said what a good life he and JoAnn had, with wonderful children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They spent many years enjoying their Bayliner live-aboard boat and later their travel trailer. They traveled to Europe several times including Sweden where Ken has wonderful relatives. Their favorite place was always Hawaii, where they were fortunate to go for many years.
