Mary Schultz(1941 - 2014)

Mary Schultz

July 21, 1941 - February 11, 2014

Mary Schultz was born Florence Mary Annie Philp on July 21, 1941, in Spokane, Washington, to English and Canadian parents Reverend Percy and Minnie Philp. At the age of 13, Mary and her family moved to Salem, Oregon, where her father became the pastor of the Salem Foursquare Church, where she faithfully attended for the next 43 years. Mary graduated from Salem Academy in 1959. She married Archie Dixon in 1961 and had four children. A few years after the end of her marriage, while planning a high school reunion, she was reunited with her high school sweetheart, Lester Lloyd Schultz. Mary married her soul mate on May 19, 1990.

Mary held many jobs in the Salem area over the years including: working at the mushroom plant/cannery; selling hats in the Lipman's millinery department; driving a berry and bean platoon bus for several seasons (the kids would love how she would drive fast over the bumps); selling Beeline Fashions and many years with Avon. In 1997, she retired as a District Sales Manager after 25 years with Avon and that is when life really got busy. Between church activities, her children, grandchildren and vacations, Mary and Les have enjoyed their retirement and have been busier than ever. Mary, the true hostess, always worked to make everyone welcome and strived to include all in every aspect of life from family gatherings to organizing camping trips, women's retreats, or numerous socials and events at their church home, Westgate Assembly of God. Everyone from Westgate has known Mary and her hugs. It has been said that no one entered the building on a Sunday without a hug from Mary and if she missed you at the door, she would catch up to you to make sure you felt welcomed and loved.

With an amazing spirit and faith Mary fought cancer for two years but sadly on February 11, 2014, her body could not keep up and she was called home to be with the Lord. Mary was an amazing woman, wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed by all those who have had the opportunity to know and love her.

Mary is survived by her loving husband Les; four children: Dianna (and Keith) Kroeker of Desert Hot Springs, California; Dennis (and Cynthia) Dixon, of Salem, Oregon; Suzanne (and Clark) Pierce of Flagstaff Arizona; and Angi (and Chris) Lyda of Forest Grove, Oregon; three step-children: Eric (and Julie) Schultz of Tigard, Oregon; Ryan (and Maya) Schultz of Apache Junction, Arizona; and Dana Hayes of Scappoose, Oregon; 16 grandchildren: Scott and wife Becky, Cameron and fiancé Amira, Charissa, David, Anthony, Jack, Katie, Paxton, Allison, Levi, Alyssa, Jackson, Clark, Nathaniel, Lilly and William; three great-grandchildren: Michael, Alyeah and Dominique; her brother Dave Philp and his wife Rose of Salem, Oregon; her sister-in-law Elva Philp and her husband Larry Newman of Yachats, Oregon; first cousins Joan Olson and her husband Mark of Fredricksburg, Virginia, and Andrew Philp of Chemainus, British Columbia; many other cousins in England; and multiple beloved four-legged family members.
