Nina Justine Combest

May 31, 1918 - May 14, 2014

Nina Justine Combest died on May 14, 2014 at Lancaster Village Assisted Living in Salem, Oregon, just 17 days short of turning 96 years old.

Nina was born at home in Swan Lake, Oregon on May 31, 1918 to Henry and Lizzie Schmor. Nina went to school in Bonanza, Oregon where she graduated from High school in 1935. Four years later she graduated from the University of Oregon with a BA degree. While attending U of O, she was a member of the A.O. Pi Sorority.

In 1939 she married Hugh Combest and became a World War ll sailor's wife, traveling to many ports on both coasts of the United States. Upon her husband's retirement from the Navy in 1955, they settled in Turner, Oregon where they lived until 1988.

Nina was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary Fleet Reserve for many years.

In 1988 Nina and her husband moved to Salem, Oregon where they lived until his death in 2001. They enjoyed marriage together for 62 years. Nina then moved to Lancaster Village Retirement Center where she lived the rest of her days.

Nina is survived by her Brother Robert Schmor, Niece Jill Gordon, Nephews; Douglas Schmor, David Schmor, and John Schmor, and Cousins Molly Jackson and Carol Parsons.

There will be a Private family memorial held on Nina's birthday. Nina is cared for by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom directors
