Robert Cobine


September 11, 1920 - January 9, 2014

INDEPENDENCE - Robert Junior Cobine died on January 9th. Jr. was born September 11, 1920 in Hoquiam, WA. He and his family moved to Independence in 1925. Robert graduated from Independence High School in 1939. Jr. worked for Lockeed-Vega Aircraft Corporation building P-38 fighter jets. Jr joined the Air force and spent nearly four years in the Fifth Aircraft Repair Unit (floating) traveling from port to port until his honarble discharge in March 1946. Robert married the love of his life, Joan Lane from Burbank, CA. They honeymooned at Catalina Island and from there headed for their next destination, Independence (Hopville). This is where they made their home. Jr. farmed with his dad for 2 years and then they bought the Patton Ranch, which later became the Cobine & Cobine Ranch. They started out with hops and then moved to strawberries, cherries, bush and pole beans, and a variety of caneberries.

Robert is survived by his beloved bride Joan of 67 years; his 3 Children: Sharon Hopkins & (Rick) of Independence, Bob Cobine & (Dova) of Salem, and DeAnn Ainsworth and (Mike) of Monmouth; 9 grand children; 20 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandson.

Services will be held at the Independence First Baptist Church, Friday, January 17th, at 11:00am. Private interment Hilltop Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Independence First Baptist Church or Gentiva Hospice in care of Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center who is caring for the family.
