Shelby Francis Henderson
July 9, 1920 - March 8, 2014
SALEM - Shelby was born to Shelby and Lenora Henderson in Stockton, California, 1 of 5 children. He was raised in California where he met and married Barbara Smith in 1942. They lived and raised most of their six children in Portola Valley, California. Oregon became their home in 1976 where they have lived and worked in Lake Oswego, Keizer and retired in Salem at Lancaster Village in 2008. After 69 years of marriage, Barbara passed away in 2011.
Shelby worked his entire life as a creative inventor. His passion was to make life better for humanity. In 2005 Shelby received an Emmy for his role on the team of men that led to the development and invention of the VCR. In the time Shelby was not tinkering with engines or creating new ideas, he was a proud father who loved his 6 children and 18 grandchildren.
Shelby is survived by his children; Teri Ryder of Scotts Mills, Frank Henderson of Silverton, Jessica Ruby of Sequim, Washington, Michelle Deimling of Redmond, Debbie Henderson-Norton of Redmond and Rob Henderson of Eugene; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchildren.
Celebration of Shelby's Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Lancaster Village, 4138 Market ST. NE in Salem. Private burial will be at Willamette National Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his wife, Barbara. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to a
