Richard H. Hunger, Sr.

May 11, 1919-April 24, 2012

SALEM -Richard grew up in Gales Creek, OR, and he married Genevieve Delsman in 1940. He graduated from Oregon State University with a degree in mechanical engineering before serving in the Navy during World War II. He then moved his family to Peoria, IL, where he began his career. Over the years, Richard designed earthmoving, logging, farming and oil drilling equipment. Richard also found time to be a Scoutmaster for 20 years in Washington, IL; in 1962, he received a Silver Beaver Award. He also found time for beekeeping and constructing hand-made wooden children's toys. Richard was preceded in death by his wife in 1987. He is survived by all of his children: Richard, Jr.; John; Jim; Carol; Janice and Joanne; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sisters June and Claire; nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial mass will be held in Salem, OR, on Tuesday, May 1st, 8am, at St. Vincent's Church, 1010 Columbia NE. Interment will take place in Ashland, OR, at 10am on May 2nd, at Scenic Hills Cemetery, next to his wife.

So sorry to hear of your loss. Dick was a special kind of guy. He was always building something or coming up with protoypes for one of his inventions. To me, he was a big kid in an adult suit and I think he preferred it that way. I will never forget all the jokes he would make....wonderful man!
