I had the privilege of knowing Joyce for many years through the Bible Book House. My grandpa and grandma Fuller worked with Joyce, as did my mother and father. When I graduated from college I was able to work full time with Joyce at the Bible Book House. As a child I remember many wonderful Bible Book House parties in their back yard. I even remember seeing my grandpa Fuller playing a spirited game of box hockey. As an adult, this fond memory inspired me to build a box hockey in my own backyard for my family to enjoy as they were growing up.
As a teenager I worked at the Bible Book House in the summers. I learned to demonstrate how to use a Bible by listening to Joyce explain it to the customers. She was always so patient, genuine and positive in her approach with people, and she had a real gift for putting people at ease. She always made me feel welcome to visit with her at her “desk” located there amidst the Bibles. Through the years I discussed a wide variety of topics with her—from being a student, to being a newlywed, and later being a father of four children. She ALWAYS encouraged me, and expressed her confidence in me to rise to whatever new challenge was before me. More than anything else, she encouraged me to trust in the Lord, to acknowledge God and be confident that HE would direct my path. Joyce was one of the most precious saints of God I have ever known, and I look forward to seeing her again someday in heaven.

We were privileged to work with Joyce for over 40 years at Bible Book House in Salem where she served as bookeeper, friend, counselor, prayer warrior, encourager, listener, and giver of unconditional love. She was an exceptionally faithful, dependable, and loyal part of our Bible Book House family and a very dear and trusted friend. We have been tremendously blessed to have her be a part of our lives and we look forward to our reunion in heaven with her. We will be praying for you as you adjust to life without her on this earth.

Mrs. Herren was my next door neighbor when i was 4 yrs old...She always welcomed me into her home to play with billy and crissy. We played in the grape arbor, in the sand box, on the patio with the homemade scooters that Mr. herren had made...im sure i was a nuisance sometimes :-) but she always had something for me to do...and she always had an encouraging word to say even as an adult when i would see her she was as happy and encouraging as when i was 4...it is a awesome knowing she is with Jesus now.

Mrs. Herren was one of my favorite people. I attended Court Street as a child, and she and Mr. Herren ran us through many Bible drills and told us dozens of flannel-board stories. She was so sweet and so happy to see me, even after I grew up and moved away. The Herren's were involved in Court Street from very early, and were among the young married couples who envisioned and built Harmony Lodge in Lincoln City, where generations of Court Streeters enjoyed retreats, family reunions, and of course, the ocean. I considered her and Mr. Herren to be true Christian pioneers.

I don't have the words to express my feelings. Joyce and Daryl went out of their way to include me in their family and always made me feel welcome. They loved and cared for so many people. Especially Bill and Chrissy. I will miss her.

"Joyce the joyful" is what I called her. Friend, encourager, woman of God. I am out state during her services, but will be celebrating her life and her new home. My memories of her will be treasured by me personally and by many who knew her through UGM Simonka Place.

I am Volunteer Coordinator at Union Gospel Mission where dear Joyce was a volunteer at Simonka Place since March of 2003. She was a remarkable lady who was always ready to smile, say something sweet and kind, encourage and lift up. It was always a joy just to be with her. She was a constant servant and a beautiful, godly lady. She touched many, many lives in her years at Simonka Place, and she touched mine. I am better for having known her and Simonka Place carries her legacy. May God bless you, her family.
