A.J. "JACK" STEIN

June 25, 1921 - September 8, 2013

A. J. "Jack" Stein, a resident of Dallas, Oregon died on Sunday, September 8th. Jack was born on June 25, 1921 in MacNutt, Saskatchewan the son of Phillip and Priscilla Stein. Jack graduated from Canby Union High School in 1940. He worked in Amity in the grain elevators and later at the Portland ship yards. Jack married June Hampton on April 8, 1950 in Oregon City. They lived in Canby prior to settling in Dallas, Oregon in 1959. Jack worked as a Union Oil Distributor in Canby and later in Dallas. Jack had been a volunteer fire captain at Canby Fire Department. Jack Stein became the Fire Chief for the Dallas Volunteer Fire Department in 1965. He oversaw the building of the new Dallas Fire Station which was dedicated on July 28, 1973. Jack was a dedicated member of the Dallas Volunteer Fire Department and retired in 1982. The current training site was dedicated in his honor after his retirement. Jack enjoyed fishing at Prineville and traveling around the United States after he retired. They also traveled to New Zealand. Jack enjoyed woodworking. Jack also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his sons and daughter in laws, John and Michele Stein of Dallas, Joel and Deanna Stein of Keizer, along with 5 grandchildren TJ (Beth) Stein, Shannon (Danny) Sanchez, Emily (Zach) Halligan, Holly Stein, Keri (Jacob) Begin, great grandchildren, Kennedy, Charlotte & Violet Stein, Chloe, Ruby & Zeke Halligan. Jack was preceded in death by his wife June on July 3, 2011, sister, Noreen Hastings and brother, Gordon "Cork" Stein.

Funeral Services will be on Saturday, September 14th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dallas. Private family interment will be in Dallas Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday & Friday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dallas Volunteer Fire Department in care of Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center who is caring for the family.
