SILVERTON - Archie Culver, age 90, passed away at his home in Silverton on February 17, 2013. He was born September 1, 1922 in Myrtle Point, Oregon. He was raised on his family owned ranch and sawmill in Bridge, Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. and Lillian M. (Wantland) Culver and a sister, Anna Taylor.
On July 17, 1946, Archie wed his wife of 52 years, Helen L. Kelley. She died in 1998. From that marriage, there are four sons: Mitchell L. (Katie) of Silverton, David A. of Eugene, Arthur J. of Salem, and Paul L. (Debra) of Mt. Angel. Archie is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
From 1943 to 1946, Archie served in the U.S. Army, 154th Engineer Combat Battalion, reaching the rank of Tech 5. During WWII, he served in the Asian-Pacific theatre and after the war, he was with the occupation troops in Japan. Archie spent the rest of his working life in the Sawmill Industry. He worked for Twin Falls and Johnson Bros. lumber companies, in Silverton for over 30 years.
At his request, a private family service was held with burial at City View Cemetery in Salem.
