Clarence Marvin Brownell

Clarence Marvin "Brownie" Brownell was born February 22, 1922, in Granite Falls, Minnesota, to Elton Wesley Brownell and Cleone Augusta Pyatt. They moved their family to Shaw, Oregon. His parents passed away in 1934 when Clarence was 12 and brother Melvin was 14. He worked for local farmers for room and board continuing his education. He graduated from Silverton High School in the Class of 1941. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp. September 3, 1942, during WWII, serving in England.

He married Frances Estelle Warnock and had one daughter, Susan. Brownie worked for Valley Farmers Co-op (Wilco) in Stayton. He later transferred to Silverton. He eventually was manager of Valley Farmers until 1963. He went to work for Great Western Seed Company in Albany as manager until he retired. They moved to Frances' family farm on Drift Creek Road, Silverton in 1950. They resided there until October of 2009. The past 3 ½ years they have been living at Cascade Park in Woodburn.

Brownie was a self-made man who enjoyed life, his family and friends. You always knew where you stood with the "Brown". He was very proud of his birth date. There wasn't a person who met him that wasn't told his birth date "2-22-22." Brownie is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Melvin, his nephew Ken Puckett and son-in-law Michael Hannan.

He is survived by, Frances, his wife of 70 years; his daughter, Susan (LeRoy) Peterson; his grandchildren, Mark (Jenn) Hannan and their children: Kyler, Cooper, Kellen, and Chloe; John (Toni) Hannan and their children: Jack, Luke and Grace; Beth (Todd) Irwin and their children: Katie, Hanna and Sarah; sister-in-law, Marge Bourbonnais; nephew, Marvin (Daniele) Brownell; and niece Kathy (Dave) Withycombe.

Graveside Service with Military Honors will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Lewis Cemetery, Drift Creek Road Silverton. Celebration of life reception will be at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 402 N. First St., Silverton.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Brownie's name may be made to Silverton High School Alumni Assoc. Scholarship Fund (SHSAA), 303 Oak St. Silverton, OR, 97381, or Gentiva Hospice Foundation, 7801 Mesquite Bend Dr. Suite #105, Irving, Texas, 75063. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel, Silverton.
