Doris Cramer Burian

June 15, 1919 ~ November 21, 2011

MT ANGEL - Born in Silverton, Oregon on June 15, 1919. She died at Orchard House, Mt. Angel, Oregon on Nov. 21, 2011 at 92 years of age.

Doris was a third generation Oregon Trail descendant, born in Silverton, Oregon to Ermal and Minnie (Van Cleave) Cramer on, June 15, 1919. Her mother died when she was three weeks old. She grew up in Silverton surrounded by a loving family who increased her appreciation of early Willamette Valley history.

Doris attended two years of college, pre-nursing, prior to becoming a homemaker and mother. At 27 years of age she was widowed when her husband, Paul Plank, died in a sports fishing accident on the Oregon Coast leaving her alone with three children, Paulette, Dianne, and David all under 3 ? years of age. With few resources she boarded student nurses and secured a job as a nurse's aide at Silverton Hospital.

In 1950 she married Alvin Erickson. They had Tim. Their marriage later ended in divorce.

In 1963 Doris married an old friend, Ted Burian. They celebrated 38 happy anniversaries. He was the love of her life. She helped him at Burian's Market at the top of East Hill. They spent 12 adventurous retirement years on Hood Canal in Washington then returned "home" to Silverton. Ted died in 2001.

Being proactive in accepting and adjusting to the challenges of aging, Doris moved to Mt. Angel Towers where she lived for 6 years enjoying old friends and making new. She lived at Orchard House for 2 years.

Doris volunteered with Eugene Field School Literacy program, Silverton Country Museum, and as a Comfort Companion at Providence Benedictine Nursing Center sitting with the dying and those with special needs. She was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Hospitality and service to others were important values for Doris. We can honor her by living those values.

She is survived by Paulette (Duane) Olson, Dianne (Niel) Pfundt, David (Mary) Plank, Tim (Cheryl) Erickson, Wayne (Charlene) Burian, Sharon Burian (Larry) Gilson; brother Loy Cramer; grandchildren Mark, Susan, Travis, Adam, Sarah, Carole, Theresa, Mary, Matthew, Chris, and 17 great grandchildren.

Celebration of her life will be Saturday, November 26 at 2:00 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Silverton, Oregon.

The family thanks the caregivers of Orchard House and Willamette Valley Hospice.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Willamette Valley Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel (503)873-5141.
