Dorothy Merle DuRette Pickens
October 10, 1915 - June 15, 2013
Dorothy Merle DuRette Pickens passed away peacefully June 15, 2013, at the age of 97, in Rangely, Colorado. She was the beloved wife of Pearl Floyd Pickens.
Dorothy was born October 10, 1915 in Fairfield, Oregon to Francis Ralph DuRette and Mary Valerie Short DuRette. Dorothy married Pearl Floyd Pickens on July 11, 1935. They had 6 children, Steve, Sylvia, Frank, Maryann, Nancy and Lillie. They now have 21 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Dorothy worked beside her husband on their farm in Silverton, Oregon raising children and berries. They always opened the doors of their home to family and friends. She loved being around as her family began to grow.
Dorothy and Pearl were able to service missions in Australia and England for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They also were participants in the Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, New York, and worked in the Seattle and Portland Temples.
About five years ago she moved to Rangely, Colorado where she made many new friends at church, the meal site and the RecCenter. Dorothy wasn't one to let age slow her down, she always had a beautiful smile with a zest for life; that charmed everyone she met. Her husband Pearl Floyd Pickens preceded her death.
Dorothy loved and cared so much for all her friends and family.
A Funeral will take place Saturday, June 22, at 1:00 P.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, at 745 W. Main St. in Silverton, Oregon. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel.
