Edith Curson Obituary

Edith Kathleen Curson

September 11, 1923 - January 12, 2012

SALEM -Edith was born to Charles & Ollie Stone on September 11, 1923 in Tulsa, Oklahoma and grew up in Oklahoma, Arizona and California. She married Don Curson on April 16, 1946 and they had enjoyed 63 years of marriage.

Edith was a person of exceptional strength and tenacity, having lived through cancer, multiple brain and other major surgeries and many life threatening medical crises. She enjoyed traveling, especially when the traveling included camping. She was a loving wife, devoted mom and grandmother and was an accomplished quilt maker often winning 1st prize ribbons for her entries. She loved sewing, and enjoyed using her talent for her family and church projects. One of her favorite hobbies was collecting quite unusual pencil sharpeners. A lovely shadow box now houses these quite unique sharpeners. In spite of many health challenges, she had a witty sense of humor. Even into her 80's she enjoyed surprising friends, showing them her ability to kick higher than a cheerleader. She enjoyed occasionally singing to friends and family in the Cherokee language she had learned when only a girl in Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her sons Donald Curson in 1994, Kenneth Curson in 1998, her husband Don Curson in 2010 and her daughter Janice Settlemoir in December 2011. In recent months she had grown homesick for heaven, desiring to go there, wondering why she had been left behind.

She is survived by Daughter-in-law, Diana Curson, Daughter-in-law, Diane Belnap and Son-in-law, Derek Settlemoir; and her Grandchildren: Kathryn Curson, Karen Nolen and husband Steve, Paul Curson and wife Carol, Cynthia Villwock and husband Clarence, Rebekah Schweitzer and husband Paul, and Jeremy Curson.

Join us as we celebrate her graduation to her eternal home at 6 p.m. on Monday, January 30, 2012 at Northgate Wesleyan Church, 2405 Carleton Way, Salem, Oregon 97305, (503) 364-7304.
