Elsie Hanson Obituary
Elsie Hanson

March 1, 1917 - January 6, 2013

SALEM - Elsie Hanson, 95, of Salem, Oregon passed quietly into the presence of our Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, January 6, 2013.

She was born March 1, 1917 in Gagcle, North Dakota to Samuel Suko and Karolina Schlecht who migrated to the United States from Russia through Ellis Island.

In 1937, Elsie married Emmanuel Jacob Meier in Gagcle, North Dakota and participated with him as an evangelist on Indaian reservations in Montana. Emmanuel preceded her in death in 1947. As a homemaker she kept busy raising her 5 boys, crocheting, making afghans, sewing, gardening and playing her accordion and keyboard. On January 3, 1956 she married Martin Hanson and became the mother of her only daughter. Elsie was also a fantastic cook and those skills landed her a job at George Fox College for several years preparing meals for over 450 students. She now has 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and one more on the way. Her family will miss her dearly.

Words will never express the joy she brought to all through her kindness and compassion. She loved the Lord with all her heart and had a keen sense of humor right up to the day of her death.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tierra Rose Senior Living Community where she was lovingly cared for during her final days on this earth.

Services are Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Restlawn Funeral Home.
