Elsie Lillie Buhr

SUBLIMITY - Elsie Lillie Buhr, 85, passed away peacefully in her home March 22, 2013.

Elsie was born to Albert and Anna Phillips in Elkhart, Kansas, on Easter, and spent her childhood in Doge City. The family of 8 children moved to Castle Rock, WA, in 1940, and entertained one another with storytelling along the way out West. In 1945 Elsie graduated from Castle Rock High School. She then moved to St. Vincent's School of Nursing in Portland, where she would later meet Raymond Buhr on a bus trip there. They were married June 27, 1946, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Portland. Elsie received her teaching degree from Mt. Angel College in 1974. Her favorite position was being the reading teacher at Silver Crest School.

Elsie is preceded in death by, her husband; children, Patricia, James, Ric; sister, Rozella Latta; and brothers, Leo, and twins, Lloyd and Floyd Philips.

She is survived by, her children: Judith Imel, Greg (Marilyn) Buhr, Ron Buhr, Al (Diane) Buhr, Jo (Ernie) Cate, Donna (Tony) Zurfluh; sisters, Della Tennat, Louise Marinos, Virginia (Chuck) Byers; 15 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mt. Angel, on Sat., 4/6, at 1 p.m., with Rosary at 7 p.m., Fri, 4/5, also at the church. Memorials may be made to Silver Crest School Library or Calvary Cemetery of Mt. Angel. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel.
