March 20, 1928 - April 18, 2013
SALEM - Elaine (Wood) Yager was born to Donald and Goldie (Patty) Wood on the first day of spring, March 20, 1928 in Berryville, Carroll County, Arkansas. The family moved to the Salem area when she was about 4 years old. There, Elaine attended Yew Park and Bush Elementary schools. The family then moved to a country setting between Salem and Turner, Oregon which they referred to as "the five acres." There she attended Pringle school and graduated from Turner High School in 1945 where she was Valedictorian of her class. That same year, she met Marvin Clifford Yager who was home on leave from the US Navy. They married April 5, 1945 in Vancouver, Washington. As testimony to their love, their marriage spanned 57 years until Marvin's death on November 3, 2002.
Elaine worked as a secretary/typist for Clark and Groff Engineers (later to become James M. Montgomery Engineers) for over 20 years. She enjoyed her career and took great pride in her work.
Elaine's love of family and home was always represented by the wonderful meals she planned and prepared, the holidays she lovingly arranged and adorned and the talented efforts she put forth in the beautiful yard and home in South Salem where she resided for nearly 60 years.
