Frank J. Ambrose

January 20, 1924 - March 24, 2013

SALEM - Frank was born to Italian Immigrants, Gaetano D'Ambrosio and Angelina Fazzari D'Ambrosio in Walla Walla, WA. Frank had a long and successful career in the cannery industry. He was employed with Libby McNeil and Libby in Walla Walla until 1970 when it closed and he was transferred to their Salem plant. He was with Libby's for 41 years. When Libby's closed, he then worked for Norpac at Plant #7, until his retirement in 1990.

He was instrumental in organizing Little League Baseball in Salem in 1970. He went on to be an assistant district administrator for District 4 in Portland. When Salem organized enough leagues, Salem became District 7, of which he was the district administrator for 18 years. While living in Walla Walla he was a professional umpire for colleges.

Frank was a member of Queen of Peace Church and ushered for them 41 years; a past member of Elks #287; a veteran of WWII and emeritus District Administrator of District 7 Little League.

He is survived by three children; Steven and Mary Ambrose of Denver, CO, Douglas Ambrose of Danville, CA and Karen and Todd Rabb of Salem. He has eight grandchildren; Hadley, Samuel and Marcus Ambrose of Denver, CO; Paige, Brooke, Ross and Krista Ambrose of Danville, CA and Chloe Rabb of Salem. He is also survived by a sister, Mary Lucco of Portland, sister-in-law, Grace Ambrose of Chula Vista, CA and good friend Jeanette D. Ambrose. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Josephine and a brother, Paul.

Rosary will be 7 pm Tuesday, April 2 at City View Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be 10 am Wednesday, April 3 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church 4170 Pullman Ave. SE in Salem. Committal at the grave with military honors will follow at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
