SILVERTON - Gertrude Aman passed away on October 10, 2011 at the age of 83. Gert was the first of four children, born to Louie and Anne Weissenfels. She was raised in Mt. Angel and married Russel Aman on February 11, 1950. Gert and Russ raised six children on the family farm south of Mt. Angel.
Gert worked at Verbort's Coast to Coast store, and there, she aspired to open a shop of her own. When her dad, Louie, retired from blacksmithing in 1979, his historic blacksmiths shop sat empty looking for a new purpose. In 1980, Gert with the help of her children, started making and selling dried flowers, head bands, and arrangements during Oktoberfest.
Opening Louie's Corner in 1983, Gert faithfully ran her shop for 28 years and continued her work there through September of this year. Working in her shop, and watching her grandchildren grow helped keep her happy, healthy and active all these years.
Gert was preceded in death by her Husband Russel, Brother Leonard Weissenfels and Son-in-Law, Gary Anderson. She is survived by children Rick (Linda), Debra Anderson, Bob (Robin), Tim (Debbie), Tom (Annette), Kevin (Amy); 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; Sisters, Mary Lou Bartosz and Helen Weissenfels.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Mt. Angel at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 13, 2011. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Rosary will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, also in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Mt. Angel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church for the restoration of the Nativity Figurines. Arrangements by Unger Funeral Chapel, Mt. Angel.
